Factors that has influenced MDP to Commit Political Suicide as a part is the background of Nasheed and Go Go Latheef and Other such Corrupted Elites.

Culture has played an active role in shaping people's political actions in the political structures and directly contributed to the very foundations of those structures. Culture affects these structures by influencing the way the people perceive politics and thus influence the political development of most countries. Culture thus is a coalescence of many factors, that form political orientations and political actions of countries. Political orientation can be broken down into three components; the perceptions an individual has about the personalities, structures, and the overall political system of the country in which he is living and his feelings about these aspects of the system and the conclusions and opinions drawn about them (Khan, 1972).

Perception, feelings, and evaluations of the people of countries have about their political system are influenced by political socialisation. Political socialization refers to the process by which the values attitudes and skills that constitute political socialization refers to the process by which the values attitudes and skills that constitute political culture are diffused throughout society. It is important to investigate how the values attitudes and skills come to exist in the modern political systems. There are several influencing factors such as family religion, educational systems societal structures, mass media and socio economic variables and historical experiences. I am going to look at such factors that has influenced MDP foundation; the founder members to form such a radical Movement of their Political Party despite the government allowing them to function in Maldives.

What we see in the Movement MDP and its members are a common group of people who share the same elite background. Their background when looked into share some common social, economic, educational and historical experiences. The foundation of the movement depends entirely on the motives of three individuals. The the two people Anni and Go Go Latheef will be discussed here in detail to show the people the hub of MDP and their elite background and fantastic selfish desire for power due to such connection under a theoretical framework.

MR GOGO a product of a powerful elite family with his political connection to corruption and power starting from his fathers involvement in the Suvadive Republic of the Southern Atolls during Nasirs' regime is MDPS chairperson. The anti Government corruptive background of the father was inherited by MR Go GO Latheef. He has always been involved in motives to be in politics of Maldives; with his elite background; ownership of businesses and resorts his ambition to gain political privileges and grew to fanatic levels that he started engaging himself in such activities.

According to one news paper MR Go GO Latheef the founder member of MDP belongs to the elite group of Maldives although they were from Huvadhoo. He although is a man who fell from Grace; Latheef's father was  a politician during Svadive in the Huvadhu fact the Republic formed by Afif Didi  in 1990. As a consequence his father was jailed and is argued by the family that his death is caused by Nasir. As a close ally of the president intially  seeking justice from something that happened during Nasirs regime, and the president not giving him what he want, is the main reason why he went anti to the regime of the current president. Thus since then accoridng to the news paper he has become a vocal critic of president Maumoon, and founded the movment MDP focused on  seeking revenge for personal reason. His famileis invovlement in courruption and human right abuses goes as far as his fathers political invovlements during Svadive. That is it was alleged that Latheefs father used brutal methods to get people to join the Suvadhive moemvemtn, and in some icnident salleged killing and murder were committed (Idhikeela 2007)

To reflect on the Chair person Mr moahmed Nasheeds  the same elite background can be identified. Mr Mohamed Nasheed came from one of the most powerful rich privildged families of the capital Male’ and Maldives. Their assoication to money and power and privildige just like GO GO goes to ownership of tourist resorts and the like. Thus the only thing lacking is the political prividge and from the time Anni was  educated abroad in United Kingdom; this lead him to form allies of highly politically motivated and business oreinted strong characters like MR David Hardnigham and international Orgnisations such as Amensty International to back him up. His corruption goes back to the time as early as early 90s (Maldives culture 2001). That is Annis; alleged accepetance of 1 million dollars of bribary from unknown sources. Some other allegation include cash for parleiamentary debates. During his early years in parleimaent he allegaedy supported bills for corruptive finnacial gains for himself.

Anni from his base in the United Kingdom Latheef from his base in Srilanak formed a partnership to creat   social  disorder  and successfully lead to influence and gain support of the people, without much knowledge of politics and democracy. Thus together of same elite background, similar past experiences and characters of the same social, economic background, one as the founder member the other as the chair person MDP started functioning as a political party. Their families privileged, rich enjoy life abroad either in the United Kingdom or Srilanka mostly detached from the normal sentiments and values of the Maldivian. So what they seek if politically analysed is establishing such a life for themselves and their kinds in the Maldives.

Political orientation of political activists with elite background are individual  with focus on gaining ownership to themselves. The potential relation of elites coming to power in political setting and committing of crimes, acts of corruption is seen by risk analysts, as extremely high. A more worrying possibility is that citizens and politicians of elite background will always have a disparity and gap in understanding what the normal people needs are. That means MDP officials understanding of the rules of the political process goes differently than that of what citizens really need. This already is apparent in Nasheeds interview. He is focused on making a market oriented welfare society of Maldives when the country is still a developing country and the citizens are dealing with issues of overcoming poverty. Such a “values gap” that could reflect elite

Arrogance only in theory is already applied in the dealings of MDP.  The action of MDP carrying out election only few days following a national disaster where Maldivian has been suffering from ecomconical and social deprivations show the lack of their comprehension and ignorance of the citizen needs. Elite values and elite thinking within MDP means we the citizens will always will be deprived, excluded, marginalised and dehumanised. The political behaviour of the group is further indication they are only concerned about themselves as theory goes.

Both the personalities and MDPS conduct is the party’s ideology and the members are individualists who insist on the liberty to only advance their own interests. We are  deeply uncomfortable with the basic processes of MDP specially their political influence such as methods of lobbying, and the party discipline most of all. It is one thing to be a typical success to delude people and form a party on an initial positive response. However it is another to stay popular and successful when people learn that they have being duped deceived lied to and sees repeated misconduct. Political practises of MDP should be about meeting the public’s standards everyday of the Week. Not the party and their individual needs. Secrecy may aid the process, up to a point, while making everything public knowledge and attaching transparency to the action is the only way to go forward in politics. MDP needs to rebuild themselves as a political party if they are ever to function credibly. A competitive party political system need to discredit the movement MDP, thus the countries politics can resume the reforms by replacing violence with healthy political debate. The work, of the president now at hand in the political arena is to put a stop to MDP  functioning at all in Maldives and  reversing these national trends of breakdown and growing disorder to engagement in formulation of policies towards a political framework of democracy.
